[ MID-TEMPO DRUM BEAT PLAYS ] [ MID-TEMPO MUSIC PLAYS ] Narrator: WE TEND TO THINK OF ART AS SOMETHING JUST TO LOOK AT, BUT A LOT OF ARTISTS MAKE THEIR WORK TO STIMULATE OUR OTHER SENSES. SCULPTORS, TEXTILE AND FABRIC ARTISTS, BOOK MAKERS, CERAMISTS, AND ARTISTS WORKING IN MANY OTHER FORMS THINK A LOT ABOUT HOW TO ENGAGE VIEWERS SENSE OF TOUCH. EVEN WHEN THEIR ART IS NOT MEANT TO BE TOUCHED, ARTISTS PUT A LOT OF THOUGHT AND WORK INTO CREATING MANY DIFFERENT TEXTURES. TEXTURE IS ONE OF THE SEVEN ELEMENTS OF ART, ALONG WITH LINE, SHAPE, COLOR, FORM, VALUE, AND SPACE. TEXTURE IS THE LOOK OR FEEL OF A SURFACE. JUST LIKE FORM, TEXTURE CAN BE REAL OR IMPLIED. IF YOU WERE TO RUN YOUR HAND ACROSS THIS SCULPTURE BY ALBERTO GIACOMETTI, YOU WOULD FEEL THE HARDNESS OF THE BRONZE METAL AND THE ROUGHNESS OF THE FORM THAT GIACOMETTI CREATED. THIS IS CALLED ACTUAL TEXTURE. IMPLIED TEXTURES ARE ONLY VISUAL. THEY CANT BE FELT. FOR INSTANCE, IF YOU COULD TOUCH THE CANVAS OF THIS SELF-PORTRAIT BY CHUCK

The usual convention is to use U and V as the axis of the texture space where U corresponds to X in the 2D cartesian coordinate system and V corresponds to Y.
Sand, salt and pebbles can feel gritty and bumpy on your toes when at the beach.
Texture coordinates are in texture space. That is, they are relative to the location (0,0) in the texture. When a texture is applied to a primitive in 3D space, its texel addresses must be mapped into object coordinates. They must then be translated into screen coordinates, or pixel locations.
Texture coordinates do not depend on resolution but can be any floating point value, thus OpenGL has to figure out which texture pixel (also known as a texel ) to map the texture coordinate to. This becomes especially important if you have a very large object and a low resolution texture.
The Texture Coordinate node is commonly used for the coordinates of textures, typically used as inputs for the Vector input for texture nodes.
Using the Texture Coordinate and Mapping Nodes Select the object with a material applied. Open up the Shader Editor. Press Shift+A, then hover over Input and select Texture Coordinate. Press Shift+A again, then hover over Vector and select Mapping.
Material versus Texture A material defines the optical properties of an object: its color and whether it is dull or shiny. A texture is a pattern that breaks up the uniform appearance of the material. Very few objects in the real world have completely uniform surfaces.
Texture and materials properties Material properties such as strength, chemical reactivity, stress corrosion cracking resistance, weldability, deformation behavior, resistance to radiation damage, and magnetic susceptibility can be highly dependent on the materials texture and related changes in microstructure.
