hey YouTube todayamp;#39;s video is a little different than some of the other ones that I do this one is not a project per se this is the results of a project I did a few years ago and the results are not pretty so a couple years ago I redid my deck and I went from a semi-solid stain to a solid stain and it looked great when I first did it Iamp;#39;ll actually put a picture in of what it looked like when I first finished now this is only is only two years ago so if this was five or six years Iamp;#39;d say maybe it wasnamp;#39;t that bad but this is only two years and this really has not held up well at all and unfortunately the problem is now Iamp;#39;m gonna have to strip this whole thing down which gives me another project something fun I need to work on but yes so thatamp;#39;s the issue so I would say be very careful if youamp;#39;re gonna use a solid stain the stain I had before and only way I said a couple years also good to restain it using a semi solid stain was no prob

What is the best stain for IPE?

Make sure to choose a wood stain designed for dense wood, such as IPE: IPE Decking Stains. All of these stains are transparent but pigmented. Messmers UV Plus for Hardwoods, Defy Extreme Stain, and Armstrong Clark Hardwood Colors are our most popular.

Can you put darker stain over lighter stain?

Staining over stain is easy and works beautifully if youre applying a dark stain over a lighter stain on the wood. Remember, its the same principle as dying your hair! This rule applies to oil-based stains, water-based stains, and gel stains.

Do you have to remove old stains before restaining?

Staining over an old, failing finish can lead to premature peeling or flaking of the new stain. Stripping eliminates this risk by ensuring a strong bond between the wood and the fresh stain.

Can you put a darker stain over top of a lighter stain?

I have worked with wood stain in the past on a BENCH and our BEAMS. The difference here, is I have not re-stained a piece. From this experiment, I can honestly say adding darker wood stain to an already stained piece did work for me.

Can I stain over stain without sanding the deck?

With a solid color stain, anytime you would like to give your deck a fresh coat, simply go-ahead with a simple light cleaning and put another coat on. You dont even have to sand unless you want or if it could really use one.

Can you put a darker stain over a lighter stain without sanding?

Leave the original stain in place if you want to stain the piece a darker color. If youre going from a light stain to a dark stain, theres no need to strip away the existing stain first. However, keep in mind that the existing stain may alter the color of the finished product.

Why is my stain not the same color?

Different woods accept stain differently, to the point where getting close to the same color on different woods or even on different pieces of the same type of wood may require not only different techniques, but possibly different stains and processes as well.

Does temperature affect staining?

Temperature and humidity can have major effects on how your stain dries. If its too wet or cold, the drying time for stains can easily double. In extreme cases, the product will just stay wet until the humidity decreases or the temperature rises.
