There are three variations of the DTDs for XHTML - strict, transitional, and frameset.
HTML and XHTML Features HTML is the standard markup language for creating web pages, while XHTML is a stricter and more standardized version of HTML. Both HTML and XHTML include a wide range of features, such as support for multimedia, styling, and scripting.
Every XHTML document has three major components: the XHTML declaration, the head, and the body.
The XHTML documents contains three parts, which are discussed below: DOCTYPE: It is used to declare a DTD. head: The head section is used to declare the title and other attributes. body: The body tag contains the content of web pages.
To make an image act as a link, place the img element within the a element. The default appearance is a blue border around the image. Specifying border=0 removes the border around the image. The W3C recommends using style sheets instead of the border attribute for the img element.
XHTML Elements Must be Properly Nested. XHTML Elements Must Always be Closed. XHTML Empty Elements Must Always be Closed. XHTML Elements Must be in Lowercase. XHTML Attribute Names Must be in Lowercase. XHTML Attribute Values Must be Quoted. XHTML Attribute Minimization is Forbidden.
There are three formal DTDs for XHTML 1.0, corresponding to the three different versions of HTML 4.01: XHTML 1.0 Strict is the XML equivalent to strict HTML 4.01, and includes elements and attributes that have not been marked deprecated in the HTML 4.01 specification.
Doctypes and markup styles The HTML5 doctype. The HTML 4.01 strict doctype. The HTML 4.01 transitional doctype. The XML 1.0 strict and transitional doctypes. The HTML 4.01 and XML 1.0 frameset doctypes. Other doctypes. HTML versus XHTML syntax. Serving real XML.
