we think about medical diagnostics one of the most commonly performed lab tests is to do an analysis of a patients blood and often in order to do that you do whats called venipuncture so a phlebotomist will insert a needle into a vein and then he or she will withdraw 10 or 20 ccs of blood and we send that off to the lab for analysis but in a lot of settings we would like to have the results of that blood test available immediately so what were interested here in Richards quartum lab is developing devices for really low resource settings in a lot of these settings they dont have the resources or the training to be able to draw blood in the normal way from the vein and so we wanted to find out is how many how many drops you can take from a finger prick to be able to get a similar accuracy as the venous draw a lot of our devices use tiny amounts of blood from a finger prick we need to know how accurate those are and we think this is important because a lot of diagnostic tests are mov
