Some of the more popular languages for CGI programming include AppleScript, C/C++, C Shell, Perl, Tcl, and Visual Basic. Here is a quick review of the advantages and, in some cases, disadvantages of each one.
CGI Script Structure. When your script is invoked by the server, the server passes information to the script in one of two ways: GET or POST. These two methods are known as request methods. The request method used is passed to your script via the environment variable called-appropriately enough-REQUESTMETHOD.
CGI scripts are used to process a query from the user and function as the glue between the query and the database. For example, a CGI script might pull the search data out of the GET request in the HTML form, look it up in the database (DBMS) and format the results as an HTML page that is sent back to the user.
In computing, Common Gateway Interface (CGI) is an interface specification that enables web servers to execute an external program to process HTTP or HTTPS user requests.
These images are either static (i.e. still images) or dynamic (i.e. moving images). CGI both refers to 2D computer graphics and (more frequently) 3D computer graphics with the purpose of designing characters, virtual worlds, or scenes and special effects (in films, television programs, commercials, etc.).
CGI stands for Common Gateway Interface and provides an interface between the HTTP server and programs generating web content. These programs are better known as CGI scripts. They are written in a scripting language. The Network Component provides such a scripting language.
5. Disadvantages of CGI In Common Gateway Interface, each page load incurs overhead charges by having to load the programs into memory. Under normal circumstances, data cannot be easily cached between page loads. Common Gateway Interface is time-consuming as it takes a lot of processing time.
CGI scripts are generally written in languages such as Perl, C, or shell scripts. For example, a simple Perl script could be used to process form data submitted from a web page and generate a dynamic response.
