Often an alteration or obliteration may be discovered and deciphered, or an ink differentiation determined by the document examiner. The obvious and discernible evidence of a second writing instrument may well prove that an addition, after the fact, has taken place.
There are two types of color-changing inks. Photochromic changes with light and thermochromic changes with temperature. I am using thermochromic.
Hydrochromic ink color changes when wet. Most parents have done it but probably dont want to talk about it that quick finger swoop inside a babys diaper to see if its wet and needs changing.
An ink that changes its color depending on the angle of observation and illumination. The ink contains a nontransparent scaly pigment with a layered structure that includes a reflective metallic layer, a transparent dielectric layer, and a translucent metallic layer.
The ink displays two distinct colors depending on the angle the bill is viewed at. The United States fifty-dollar bill, for example, uses color shifting ink for the numeral 50 so that it displays copper at one angle and bright green in another.
OVI Optically Variable Ink. An ink, containing optically variable pigments which change colour depending on the angle of light incidence and view. Applied by intaglio or screen printing. It is important for colours to be contrasting and well distinguishable (fig. 1).
