Indexing in LaTeX Include \index{entry} commands wherever you want an index entry. Include \usepackage{makeidx} and \makeindex in the preamble. Put a \printindex command where the index is to appear, normally before the \end{document} command.
To add an entry to the index the command \index{} is used, where the word to be added is inserted as the parameter. Be careful, this wont print the word in the current position but only in the index. Finally, the command \printindex will actually render the index.
See follows an entry with no locatorsit simply refers the reader to another part of the index. See also follows an entry with locators; it refers the reader to additional information in another entry. See also under refers to the reader to a subentry under certain circumstances.
makeindex Process index output to produce typesettable code. A general purpose hierarchical index generator; it accepts one or more input files (often produced by a text formatter such as TeX or troff), sorts the entries, and produces an output file which can be formatted.
Index terms are added to a document using the \index command; terms specified in this way are written out by the LATEX job into an . idx file which is then processed separately by the makeindex program to create an .
By convention, LaTeX uses the underscore character ( ) to typeset a subscript, such as $ab$ which produces . If you write $abcde$ only the first character, b , is subscript, a b c d e , because LaTeX does not assume you want to subscript the entire set of characters bcde .
