Check your Storage Running low on disk space can cause various performance issues, like Mac Finder running slow. Take a quick look and clean up your Mac if youre running low on space to improve your system performance. Click the Apple logo top left, then About This Mac.
Open System Preferences. Open Spotlight and select the Privacy tab. Drag the Macintosh HD drive (startup disk) to the Spotlight window and click OK when prompted. Spotlight will start reindexing the drive. Depending on the drive size it might take a while.
Rebuild the Spotlight index Choose Apple menu  System Settings. Click Siri Spotlight in the sidebar, then scroll down and click Spotlight Privacy on the right. Drag the disk or folder that you want to index again to the list of locations that Spotlight is prevented from searching.
There are a few different possible reasons your Spotlight indexing is stuck, including: New macOS installed. Corrupt archive. A large amount of files and data on your Mac.
Fixes for Spotlight indexing slow From the main Apple menu, go to System Settings Siri Spotlight. Click the Spotlight Privacy button at the bottom of the page. To reindex a particular folder or disk, drag its icon into the window of locations that Spotlight is prevented from searching.
To speed up a Spotlight search, it creates an index of everything on all connected drives, because thats faster than actually searching every file every time. Because you just installed the OS, everything is new. That means the index is 100% not current, so the whole thing must be built.
