You can use a preferred first name for your campus email address and MyUni only. Your preferred first name is a name that you commonly use that differs from your official legal name.
Your preferred first name is the name you are called in day-to-day life. It is your chosen first name. Your legal first name is your official first name of record. For example, your official transcripts, tax forms, payroll records will not change from your legal first name to your preferred first name.
In the US you can use any name you please as long as it is not fraudulent or misleading. Yourlegal name is the one found on official documents such as your birth certificate and passport. If you want to change that, there is a simplified court petition available in most states.
You do not have to follow a legal process to start using a new name. But you might need a deed poll to apply for or to change official documents like your passport or driving licence.
Students who need to update their legal name must contact registrar@drake.edu. Students will be required to provide legal documentation of their name change. The students preferred name is listed in the following places: Drake ID card.
Official / Legal names If your name on some or all your entry qualifications is different to your current legal name, you will also need to provide formal evidence showing that you changed your legal name since your qualifications were awarded.
