all right so for this video i wanted to address a common question i get which is can i apply for my ein for my business before the entity is actually created right and so when would this arise well there are some states in the u.s where the process is quite slow to get an llc or corporation form so you file the documents with the state and a lot of times you have to wait up to two weeks to get the confirmation from the state that the entity is formed and legally existing and ready to go and so then youre asking yourself well during that two-week period can i go ahead and apply for my ein and get the ein while im waiting for the llc or the corporation to get formed the short answer is you know can you apply for it early you can the irs will allow this but in my opinion and a lot of other practitioners agree with this it is not recommended at all and heres why its not recommended because theres always a chance that when you file the documents the state might reject your desired name

Do I need a separate EIN for each DBA? No, you will use the same EIN for a business and all its DBAs. Can you get an EIN as a sole proprietor? You can, and many sole proprietors choose to do so for tax benefits and added privacy.
EINs are not limited, so you may apply for as many as you need. You are dividing your business into separate entities. If, after dividing up a business, they operate independently and you form new legal entities for each, then each entity will need a different EIN.

You may apply for an EIN online if your principal business is located in the United States or U.S. Territories. The person applying online must have a valid Taxpayer Identification Number (SSN, ITIN, EIN). You are limited to one EIN per responsible party per day.
The simple answer to the question of how many EINs you are allowed is as many as the number of business entities you have. A single business or entity can have only one, although there are situations where you will need to apply for a new one due to changes to your business.
For example, the parent company might be a corporation and the subsidiary could be operated as a corporation, LLC, or partnership. In this relationship, both companies are considered separate legal entities, and both must have separate EINs for federal tax purposes.
The IRS asks that you send a letter, on company letterhead (if available) providing the name and Social Security Number of the owner(s) of the LLC. Be sure to include the LLCs complete name, EIN, and mailing address so the IRS can correctly identify your IRS account.
Ask the IRS to search for your EIN by calling the Business Specialty Tax Line at 800-829-4933. The hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. local time, Monday through Friday.
