the solution to this example first thing we have to figure out is why this is not showing as a number so if I highlight that you can see nothingamp;#39;s been added so for some reason Excel is not seeing as a number now the first thing you may notice is that this little apostrophe here so if we somehow got rid of it but you can see nothing has happened so letamp;#39;s get rid of the comma and this one and youamp;#39;ll see that already looks better just as a test when I highlight them at least the first one gets done itamp;#39;s just so what weamp;#39;re gonna do here first thing weamp;#39;re gonna do is remove the comma so the function weamp;#39;re going to use is the substitute function what weamp;#39;re going to say is please Excel look over here for the text the old text inverted commas Iamp;#39;m going to put a comma then you text is nothing weamp;#39;re gonna replace it with nothing so just two inverted commas next to each other and in this case we wanted to replace all

Use a pair of commas in the middle of a sentence to set off clauses, phrases, and words that are not essential to the meaning of the sentence. Use one comma before to indicate the beginning of the pause and one at the end to indicate the end of the pause.
Rule 3: Put a comma after an introductory expression that does not flow smoothly into the sentence. It may be a word, a group of words, or a dependent clause. Yes, Ill go. Well, that was the end of that.
There is no limit as to how many commas you can have in a sentence. However, one needs to know when and where to use them. It can be merely to pause or highlight a word or phrase, or to emphasize a word or phrase.
Download or print a PDF of these rules which also include exercises. Use a comma to separate independent clauses. Use a comma after an introductory clause or phrase. Use a comma between all items in a series. Use commas to set off nonrestrictive clauses. Use a comma to set off appositives.
Two commas can be used to set off additional information that appears within the sentence but is separate from the primary subject and verb of the sentence. Sometimes called a parenthetical expression or an aside, this information interrupts the main thought to add an additional comment.
Some adverbs dont end -ly, e.g. sometimes or often. When an adverb modifies an entire sentence (or independent clause that follows it), then you should use a comma after it.
To avoid confusion, use commas to separate words and word groups with a series of three or more. Example: My $10 million estate is to be split among my husband, daughter, son, and nephew. Omitting the comma after son would indicate that the son and nephew would have to split one-third of the estate.
Use commas after introductory a) clauses, b) phrases, or c) words that come before the main clause. a. Common starter words for introductory clauses that should be followed by a comma include after, although, as, because, if, since, when, while. While I was eating, the cat scratched at the door.
