CASS (Coding Accuracy Support System) and NCOA (National Change of Address) are two methods of address data verification. CASS tells you if an address can receive mail. NCOA provides the current address for your recipient assuming they have filed a USPS change of address within the last 48 months.
CASS(Coding Accuracy Support System) Certification is program that was developed by the USPS to test the accuracy of address-matching software and improve the accuracy of postal coding, such as ZIP+4 Code, carrier route and 5-digit ZIP Code coding.
They typically charge less than $2/1000, though some have a minimum job charge. And, if you are already using a service for National Change of Address (NCOA) processing, youre already getting CASS certification at no extra charge as part of that process.
CASS certification is valid until the end of the current biennial period. For software to remain CASS Certified for each biennial period, developers must reapply for certification and meet the minimum accuracy requirements during Stage II testing.
