The Accept-Encoding field is used in an HTTP request to indicate which encodings are accepted in a response message to the request. This field is used to specify the values of gzip, deflate, compress and identity, which are not case-sensitive. A value of identity indicates that the data must not be compressed.
This is because the browser checks the Vary header before caching a response to ensure that the cached response only applies to the same request headers. If Vary: Origin is not set, the browser may incorrectly apply the cached response to different Origin request headers, leading to CORS errors.
The Vary header tells any HTTP cache which parts of the request header, other than the path and the Host header, to take into account when trying to find the right object. It does this by listing the names of the relevant headers, which in this case is Accept-Encoding .
The Vary HTTP response header tells user agents (clients) that the servers response can vary if the client changes any of the mentioned request headers. Vary: Accept-Encoding. This means that if the browser sends a different value in the Accept-Encoding request header, the server might send a different response.
What Does Specify a Vary: Accept-Encoding Header Actually Mean? Accept-encoding header is an HTTP header which must be included on every origin server response. Its main job is to inform the browsers if the client can handle the compressed version of the website.
Enter your authentication method. On your Login.gov account page, review the Your authentication methods menu options on the left side of the page. Select a new method to add. Learn more about authentication methods.
The Vary: Origin header The server must check this header and add an Access-Control-Allow-Origin header to indicate which sources can access the requested resource. If the Access-Control-Allow-Origin header is missing from the response, the browser will reject the response and throw a CORS error.
The Vary HTTP response header describes the parts of the request message aside from the method and URL that influenced the content of the response it occurs in. Most often, this is used to create a cache key when content negotiation is in use.
