Hey everyone, today Im guiding you through the basics of DNS Records. Lets get started! A DNS (Domain Name System) is a naming database where internet domain names are found and matched with their IP (Internet Protocol) addresses. All computers, laptops and your smartphone that connect to the internet find and communicate with one another by using numbers. But for us humans it would be impossible to remember all those numbers every time we wanted t0 search for a website. Instead, we use domain names like example.com to find the website were looking for. The domain name along with its corresponding IP address are referred to as a DNS record. Selected nameservers are responsible for storing DNS data to keep everything working smoothly. When you visit a website repeatedly, it is cached by your computers DNS cache. If it hasnt been visited and cached, a request is sent to your local DNS server. This video is actually brought to you by 10Web, an AI-powered W

For example, an A Record is used to point a logical domain name, such as google.com, to the IP address of Googles hosting server, 74.125. 224.147. These records point traffic from example.com (indicated by @) and ftp.example.com to the IP address 66.147. 224.236.
Difference Between A and CNAME An A Record maps a hostname to one or more IP addresses, while the CNAME record maps a hostname to another hostname.
CNAME records are typically used to map a subdomain such as or mail to the domain hosting that subdomains content. For example, a CNAME record can map the web address .example.com to the actual web site for the domain example.com.
A DNS record is a database record used to map a URL to an IP address. DNS records are stored in DNS servers and work to help users connect their websites to the outside world. When the URL is entered and searched in the browser, that URL is forwarded to the DNS servers and then directed to the specific Web server.
The CNAME record only points the client to the same IP address as the root domain. Once the client hits that IP address, the web server will still handle the URL ingly. So for instance, blog.example.com might have a CNAME that points to example.com, directing the client to example.coms IP address.
DNS specifies A records as one possible record type. A records are sometimes referred to as host records. They are the same thing, but I would prefer using A record, since that is what its officially called.
An A record maps a domain to the physical IP address of the computer hosting that domain. Internet traffic uses the A record to find the computer hosting your domains DNS settings. The value of an A record is always an IP address, and multiple A records can be configured for one domain name.
Add a CNAME record Name: The host name or prefix the CNAME record will be set to. You can include a period (.) but not as the first or last character. Value: The URL you are setting as the destination for the host. Type @ to point directly to your root domain name. TTL: How long the server should cache information.

Add a CNAME record to your domains DNS records Go to your domains DNS records. Add a record to your DNS settings, selecting CNAME as the record type. Return to the first window or tab and copy the contents of the Label/Host field. Paste the copied contents into the Label or Host field with your DNS records.
