(gentle music) - Hi, Im Jennifer Lee, Admin Evangelist. And this is how I Solved It. Ever been in a situation where you need to make certain users an exception to a process? Matt Henry will show us how to use custom permissions for the win. Today, Im with Matt Henry, a nonprofit solution architect at Ascendably, welcome Matt. - Hi thanks Jennifer. - So, Matt, how did you get started with Salesforce? - Well, I found out about Salesforce while I was in a career change. At the time I was in a fellowship with a nonprofit called The Mission Continues. Its an organization that connects veterans with under resource communities, and so I was doing a six month fellowship, and they shared with me that they use Salesforce, so I mean, thats when I first learned about it. And I learned about the Vet Force program which is Salesforce has a workforce development program where they offer training resources to veterans for taking classes or vouchers for taking certification exams. - Thats a great

How I solved it Create a screen flow in system mode. First, I created a simple screen flow that surfaces the one field that requires the edit to the locked record. Create a custom permission. Assign the custom permission to a permission set. Deploy the screen flow on the Lightning record page. Give your users a list view.
1 Answer load the record. allow the user to enter new field values on the flow screen. unlock the record. update the record with the entries made in the screen flow. lock the record.
go to Setup | Search Automation Settings in the Quick Find box | click on Automation Settings. Then, select Enable record locking and unlocking in Apex. Lets consider an example CPQ Quote object, to unlock records.
If you are a System Admin or have access to object layout then click on setting icon on field which looks locked and then remove uncheck required checkbox from it.
Step 1: Enable record locking and unlocking in Apex Go to setup. Search for Process Automation setting. Check the checkbox for Enable record locking and unlocking in Apex. Click Save.
To prevent this issue you can move some child records to another parent, as to reduce the amount of child records attached to a single parent record.
You should use Lock/Unlock to change whether the field is enabled in the form. Enabled means that a user can change the value in the field. If you disable a field, it is read-only, and the user cannot click into the field or change its value.
Salesforce locks records when they are being modified, to prevent two people from updating the same record simultaneously, which would result in a conflict. So when someone asks Salesforce to update a record, Salesforce first locks the record so no one else can update it until the lock is released.
