How to Turn Off Gmail 2-Step Verification (Desktop) If youre using a computer, youll first need to open the page for your Google Account. Head to the Security section, then select 2-Step Verification. Here, you may be prompted to sign into your account. Select Turn off, and youll be prompted to verify your choice.
On your Android device, go to your Google Account. At the top, tap Security. Under Signing in to Google, tap 2-Step Verification. You may need to sign in. Under Available second steps, find Authenticator app and tap Change Phone. Follow the on-screen steps.
If youre not logged in elsewhere and youve lost the smartphone with the authenticator, done a factory reset, or had it stolen (basically, if you no longer have access to it), or if the above method didnt work, you wont be able to recover the authenticator. What you can do now is restore access to your account.
Click Get Backup Verification Codes. Copy one of the verification codes. Send the backup code to the user in an IM or text message. The user can sign in to their account using a password and the backup code.
If you accidentally uninstall the Authenticator app from your smartphone you will need to re- it and then run through the setup below. One you have scanned the QR code continue with the setup on the laptop.
When you set up Google Authenticator two-factor authentication (2FA) in your account, youre prompted to download a backup key. This code lets you restore access to your account in case you change or lose your phone, or accidentally delete the Google Authenticator app.
Can I recover my Google Authenticator? You cant recover Google Authenticator from a lost phone because the secret keys Google Authenticator generates are specific to the device.
Open the Google Authenticator app. If you still have access to your old Authenticator, you can easily recover all your accounts onto a new device by scanning your QR code with that device. The only way to recover Authenticator if youve lost your phone is to make sure you have a backup copy of your QR code in advance.
Turn off 2-Step Verification On your Android phone or tablet, open your devices Settings app Google. Manage your Google Account. At the top, tap Security. Under Signing in to Google, tap 2-Step Verification. You might need to sign in. Tap Turn off. Confirm by tapping Turn off.
Sign in to your Google Account with your password and your other second step. Follow the steps to remove the lost key from your account. Get a new security key. You may want to get an extra key you can keep in a safe place. Add the new key to your account.
