Thus the only solution to accomplish the goal are as follows : Create a new undo tablespace(The following command will create the Bigfile tablespace with the size of 100MB initially) : Set the new tablespace as the undo tablespace to be used: Once the above step is done then drop the old undo tablespace:
Undo data is stored in a logical database structure called an undo tablespace. The undo tablespace is of finite size, so records might be overwritten as transactions occur. Oracle saves undo data at least until the transaction has been committed. Until this time, the undo data is in the active state.
Your production database has semiannual or annual purging programs which generate huge redo. Due to this requirement, your undo tablespace grows rapidly and occupies most of the space on file system. The purging process is run only few times a year.
The simplest way to reclaim space from the undo tablespace is to create a new undo tablespace, make it the database undo tablespace and drop the old tablespace. In the following example Ive used autoextend, but you may wish to remove this if you want manual control over the datafile size.
You can alter an undo tablespaces using the ALTER TABLESPACE statement. Use the DROP TABLESPACE statement to drop an undo tablespace. You can switch from using one undo tablespace to another.
Undo tablespaces contain undo logs, which are collections of records containing information about how to undo the latest change by a transaction to a clustered index record. Undo logs are stored in the system tablespace by default but can be stored in one or more undo tablespaces instead.
View Undo storage. Use the following queries to view undo tablespaces and rollback segments: SELECT * FROM DBATABLESPACES WHERE CONTENTS = UNDO; SELECT * FROM V$PARAMETER WHERE NAME = undotablespace; Use the following queries to view undo statistics: SELECT * FROM V$ROLLSTAT; SELECT * FROM V$UNDOSTAT;
