in this session letamp;#39;s learn about undo retention period we know undo retention period is the number of seconds the committed undo data is retained and the parameter for that is undo underscore retention here in our example we are saying 1,800 that means the undo data is stored for at least 1,800 seconds okay this under attention parameter acts a little different in Auto extending undo tablespaces versus fixed size undo tablespaces in a auto extending undo tablespace the Oracle database retains the undo for at least the time specified in the undo retention period and it also periodically used this undo retention period to meet the undo requirements like we learned before Oracle constantly checks the Oracle database to see if there are any long-running Curieamp;#39;s and if the undo retention period does not support that long-running sequel statement it will increase the undo retention period okay in case of a fixed size undo tablespaces the Oracle database will automatically tu

As the documentation says we are quite limited when it comes to UNDO tablespaces: there is no syntax for shrinking an UNDO tablespace, even in 11g. Without intervention the UNDO tablespace should be sized to fit our largest transaction.
All you need to do is create an undo tablespace and set UNDOMANAGEMENT = AUTO. You can choose to allocate a specific size for the UNDO tablespace and then set the UNDORETENTION parameter to an optimal value ing to the UNDO size and the database activity.
The amount of time for which undo is retained for the Oracle Database for the current undo tablespace can be obtained by querying the TUNEDUNDORETENTION column of the V$UNDOSTAT dynamic performance view.
To change the size of the undo tablespace in Oracle, you can either resize an existing datafile or add a new datafile to the tablespace. -- Resizing datafile. SQL ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE /opt/oracle/oradata/XE/XEPDB1/undotbs01.
For a fixed-size undo tablespace, the database calculates the best possible retention based on database statistics and on the size of the undo tablespace. You can determine the current retention period by querying the TUNEDUNDORETENTION column of the V$UNDOSTAT view.
The Undo Advisor can also be used to estimate the undo tablespace required for migration from manual to automatic undo management before actually creating the new undo tablespace. The DBMSUNDOADVISOR package provides subprograms to manage the execution of the Undo Advisor feature.
When automatic undo management is enabled, there is always a current undo retention period, which is the minimum amount of time that the Oracle Database attempts to retain old undo information before overwriting it.
Query for monitoring undo tablespace usage by transaction Session information using or accessing the undo tablespace. ( Whether or not there is a change transaction using the undo realm. Whether there is a query transaction accessing the undo area. Last SQL statement and execution time of transaction.
