A popular choice for this type of sealing job is Annie Sloans Clear Wax. This sealant stands out for the user-friendly application process and high-quality results. It also pairs well with both raw wood and painted wood pieces.
Take the jar that did not seal during processing, remove the lid, and increase the headspace to 1 inches. This will allow for food and/or liquid expansion when freezing. The canning lid may be reused when freezing. Foods in single unsealed jars can be stored in the refrigerator and consumed within a few days.
Does Wood Need to Be Sealed? Wood has some natural vulnerability because of its porosity and inherent water content. Wood can soak up the liquids it comes into contact with, discoloring it or distorting it by swelling. Some woods, if they become too dry, can warp and crack as well.
The product Id recommend for light duty sealing of raw wood pieces is Miss Mustard Seeds Hemp Oil. One of the things I really like about it is that it does a good job of preserving the beautiful patina on my more vintage (or vintage look) pieces.
To limit wood damage, preserve furniture, AND keep it looking natural youll want to seal raw wood with Liming or Cerusing wax. Clear wax or poly (from my experience) will darken the wood and may enhance yellowing and orange tones.
While some woods naturally have more resistance to moisture and decay, sealing raw wood is generally recommended to enhance its durability and longevity.
You can typically expect a deck to last 10-30 years for untreated wood and 50 or more years for treated wood and composite. However, the lifespan of a deck also depends heavily on its materials and how you maintain and seal it over the years.
Bare wood, when left unfinished, keeps your furniture with a natural wood look, but the risk is exposing it to harsh elements, even if its indoors, such as light, dust, moisture and water damage, making it more susceptible to stains, warping and cracking.
