How long can a DOT number be inactive?

Failure to File Biennial Paperwork Not submitting an update before the deadline will deactivate your U.S. DOT number and incur fines of up to $1,000 a day. The FMCSA requires motor carriers to update their business information every two years or sooner if changes occur.

How to reinstate USDOT number?

To avoid processing delays, please make sure you first have an active, up-to-date USDOT Number record before requesting reinstatement or submit a completed MCS-150 form along with your reinstatement request. How long is a USDOT number good for?

You are required to provide this update every two years. Failure to complete a biennial update will result in deactivation of your U.S. DOT Number and may result in civil penalties of up to $1,000 per day, not to exceed $10,000 as periodically adjusted for inflation.

How to revoke a DOT number?

Complete Form OCE-46 to request Voluntary Revocation of your authority (MC/MX/FF). The form must be docHubd or signed in the presence of a FMCSA staff member. To inactivate your USDOT number, follow these steps: Complete either an updated MCS-150 or MCS-150B form (for Hazmat Carriers).

How long does it take to reinstate operating authority?

Once this is on file with the FMCSA we can proceed with the reinstatement. We will automatically file the BOC-3 if we initiate the Reinstatement of Authority. Once ALL requirements are met expect your authority to be granted in 7-10 days.

How do you reactivate your USDOT number?

If the status reads Record Inactive or Inactive USDOT Number per 49 CFR 390.19(b)(4); Biennial update of MCS-150 data not completed you will need to complete, sign and submit a new Motor Carrier Identification Report (Form MCS-150) to reactivate the USDOT Number.

How long does it take to deactivate a DOT number?

If you do not need your USDOT Number or MC Number any longer you can request to cancel them both out. The process will take at least 2-3 weeks in order to cancel out your USDOT Number. USDOT Numbers that are not deactivated are still subject to federal mandates and you may be penalized for noncompliances.
