Redo is the information Oracle records in online (and archived) redo log files in order to replay your transaction in the event of a failure. Undo is the information Oracle records in the undo segments in order to reverse, or roll back, your transaction.
In InnoDB, the undo log and the redo log are two indispensable components that play a vital role in maintaining data integrity and ensuring transactional consistency. Both logs are crucial in the ACID (Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, Durability) properties of database systems.
The principle differences between undo and redo logging are: 1. Undo logging cancels the effects of incomplete transactions and ignores committed ones; redo logging ignores incomplete transactions and redoes committed ones as necessary. 2.
Undo allows you to take back data entry changes by storing a collection of data maintenance actions. Redo lets you restore the change that was undone. Under certain circumstances, for example, when you change to a different client, the collection of actions ends and you can no longer use undo or redo.
To undo an action, press Ctrl + Z.
To undo an action press Ctrl+Z on your keyboard, or select Undo on the Quick Access Toolbar. You can press Undo (or Ctrl+Z) repeatedly if you want to undo multiple steps.
REDO Information: describes how to apply the update in case the data does not make it to disk. UNDO: Information: describes how to back out the update in case the data gets to disk but shouldnt (because some other update never made it to the disk or the log).
If youre using a Windows PC, pressing both the CTRL and z keys will perform an undo. You can keep pressing this shortcut combination to keep undoing. To redo (reverse an undo), press both the CTRL and y keys.
