The steps for how to recall an email in Gmail are as follows: Log in to Gmail on your computer and send an email. In the bottom left corner of your screen, locate the Message sent box (seen above). In the Message sent box, click the Undo button.
The only way to unsend a message in Gmail is to click Undo Send immediately (or within the set timeframe, up to 30 seconds) after you sent it.
When you delete an email from your Sent folder, youre only removing your copy. The email remains in the recipients Inbox and on the servers it passed through. In contrast, recalling an email aims to remove it from the recipients Inbox.
Unfortunately, Gmails Undo Send feature only allows you to recall an email within a small window (5-30 seconds) after sending it. Theres no way to retrieve an email once that window closes, regardless of how much time has passed.
You can configure in Gmail how long you have to unsend an email in Gmail. In the top right of the Gmail interface on a laptop/desktop, click Settings and then See all settings. Next to Undo Send, select a Send cancellation period of 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds.
How to undo send on desktop Hit Send on an email. Immediately after hitting Send, look for a notification that says Message sent on the bottom left of your screen. Click the Undo option to the right of Message sent. A draft of your message will then pop up so you can edit it.
Unsend a message You can undo a recently sent message for up to 2 minutes after sending it. Open the Messages app on your iPhone. Touch and hold the message bubble, then tap Undo Send. A note confirming that you unsent the message appears in both conversation transcripts: yours and your recipients.
On your computer, go to Gmail. See all settings. Next to Undo Send, select a Send cancellation period of 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds.
