How to remove page numbers in Word manually Open the header or footer. Double-click inside the area of the header or footer where the page number is located. Select the page number and press Delete Using your cursor, click and drag to highlight the page number. Close the header or footer.

To choose a format or to control the starting number, go to Header Footer Page Number Format Page Numbers. To change the numbering style, select a different style in Number format. To change the starting page number of the newly created section, select Start at, and then enter a number. Select OK.
If you dont want a page number to print on a specific sheet, click the center of the footer on the sheet thumbnail in the grid on the left, select the page number, then press Delete on the keyboard.
