If impressions of your upper and lower teeth are needed, an impression of your lower teeth is usually made first. The tray is placed firmly against your teeth and gums, where it remains for two or three minutes. When the tray is removed, you will notice that the putty no longer looks liquid but is firm and rubbery.
Type 1 sheet impression compound is softened in a water bath with warm water and is placed in a stock tray to copy edentulous ridges. The water bath temperature is kept at around 55-60 degrees Celsius, above the impression compounds fusion temperature.
The most common dental impression errors include: Poor Tray Selection. Inadequate Impression Material Mixing. Surface Contamination. Poor Margin Detail. Internal Bubbles. Marginal Tears. Choosing the Wrong Impression Material. Rushing the Impression.
Are there risks associated with dental impressions? Generally, there arent any major risks associated with dental impressions. But some people have a gag reflex thats triggered by the dental impression procedure. In these cases, your dentist can work with you to minimize discomfort.
Warm Water Rinse: This gentle method is a good starting point. Begin by rinsing your mouth with warm water for several minutes. Gently swish the warm water around the affected area to soften the dental cement. After some time, carefully attempt to remove any loose cement with dental floss or a toothpick.
With undesirable undercuts, impression material can get locked in the patients mouth because the material fills in between the teeth. When the impression hardens, there isnt enough flex to remove the impression.
In general, there arent any major risks associated with dental impressions. The slight chance of a loose tooth coming out during an impression is rare, and dentists are fully trained to manage such situations if they do occur.
