For Amazon EC2 Linux instances, the default user name is ec2-user. The public key is stored on the target instance (the instance that the user is requesting access to) in the ec2-user home directory (~ec2-user/. ssh/authorizedkeys).
As Ubuntu cloud images are uploaded and registered on the Amazon EC2 cloud, they are referred to as AMI (Amazon Machine Images). Each AMI is a machine template from which you can instantiate new servers. Each AMI has its own unique ID. In order to launch an instance on the EC2 cloud, you first need to locate its ID.
You can often identify a default user account by its name, which is usually generic like admin, user, or guest.
When you deregister the AMI, it is simply deleted. However, all the snapshots that were attached to the AMI remain and need to be deleted manually.
That said, if its an amazon ami, then the default username is ec2-user. If the ami is from Canonical, then the default username is ubuntu. In addition, if youre looking for AMIs from Canonical, look for owner 099720109477, eg. aws ec2 describe-images | grep 099720109477 and see what that lands you.
The list below is from AWS docs: Get the default user name for the AMI that you used to launch your instance: For Amazon Linux 2 or the Amazon Linux AMI, the user name is ec2-user. For a CentOS AMI, the user name is centos or ec2-user. For a Debian AMI, the user name is admin.
Take these steps to change name in AMI When your registration is finished, proceed to the Dashboard. Add the AMI to start editing online. Open your document and utilize the toolbar to add all desired adjustments.
Open the Amazon EC2 console at , and choose Auto Scaling Groups from the navigation pane. Select the check box next to the Auto Scaling group. On the Instance refresh tab, in Active instance refresh, choose Actions, Start rollback. When prompted for confirmation, choose Confirm.
