Can you rerupture your ACL?

After an ACL reconstruction, up to 14% of patients go on to suffer a graft rupture, an ACL re-rupture [8]. Several risk factors for suffering an ACL re-rupture have been identified, including younger age, high activity level, female sex, and the use of allograft [9,10,11].

Can ACL go back to normal?

Without surgery, your ACL will remain torn. The knee might healthe swelling and pain will stop. But a torn anterior cruciate ligament does not reattach or heal itself.

How many days bed rest after ACL surgery?

It typically takes seven to 10 days after the procedure, until the patient is comfortable without the assistance of a crutch. An exception to this rule is if the patient also underwent a meniscal repair or other reconstruction of an additional ligament.

When can I return to construction after ACL surgery?

A job that requires lifting/running/or extended periods on your feet without rest will generally require six to twelve weeks of recovery before returning. Many physical jobs have modifications available that can make your return to work quicker and easier.

How long do you need to be off work for ACL surgery?

I recommend taking at least 7 days off of work after ACL surgery if you have a sedentary job. If you are on your feet, you may need 4-6 weeks or more before you are ready to return to work.

What can I do 3 months after ACL surgery?

How long after ACL surgery can you fully bend your knee?

It is okay to take your time working back into bending. In general, we like to see 90 degrees of bending by week 2, 125 degrees of bending by week 4, and full bending by week 8 (but it is also okay if it takes a little longer than that).

How serious is ACL reconstruction?

Most patients experience no complications and return to full activity between six and eight months after surgery. However, the most common complications include pain in the front of the knee and loss of knee motion.
