Since the default undo management mode is MANUAL , the instance must be told to use AUTO mode at instance startup. To do this the following initialization parameters can be set. UNDOMANAGEMENT = AUTO # Default is MANUAL UNDOTABLESPACE = undotbs01 # The name of the undo tablespace.
You can enable the guarantee option by specifying the RETENTION GUARANTEE clause for the undo tablespace when it is created or at a later period using the ALTER TABLESPACE statement. The UNDORETENTION parameter is valid only if the current undo tablespace has sufficient space.
you can use the following sql query. Remember that the value of this parameter is mentioned in seconds. SQL ALTER SYSTEM SET UNDORETENTION = 10600; System altered. You can use the previous SQL statement to make sure that the value is changed or not.
UNDORETENTION specifies (in seconds) the low threshold value of undo retention. The system retains undo for at least the time specified in this parameter and automatically tunes the undo retention period to satisfy the undo requirements of the queries.
You enable retention guarantee by specifying the RETENTION GUARANTEE clause for the undo tablespace when you create it with either the CREATE DATABASE or CREATE UNDO TABLESPACE statement. Or, you can later specify this clause in an ALTER TABLESPACE statement.
to modify or to set this UNDORETENTION value in oracle. you can use the following sql query. Remember that the value of this parameter is mentioned in seconds. SQL ALTER SYSTEM SET UNDORETENTION = 10600; System altered.
To change to automatic undo management, you must first create an undo tablespace and then change the UNDOMANAGEMENT initialization parameter to AUTO . If your Oracle Database is release 9i or later and you want to change to automatic undo management, see Oracle Database Upgrade Guide for instructions.
