Re: Text overwrite If you type ctrl+A (thats the A key with the control key held down) or double click with the mouse ( treble click if longer than one word) then whats in the textbox will all be selected and anything you then type will replace it.
To undo the most recent change, press Ctrl + Z , or click the Undo icon on the Standard toolbar, or choose Edit Undo from the menu bar. The Edit menu shows the latest change that can be undone (see below for an example from Writer).
Look in Tools | Options | Load/Save |General and see if Always Create Backup Copy is checked. If it is, look in the backup directory defined in Tools | Options | OpenOffice | Paths. Note that if you hadnt saved the document at some stage earlier in the editing process, there will be no backup.
Recover OpenOffice Unsaved Document from Backup Step 1: Open the OpenOffice application. Step 2: Follow the on-screen directives to open the last saved backup if prompted; otherwise, go on to the next step. Step 3: Open the Tools menu and choose Options. Step 4: Select Load/Save and choose General.
Select the document you want to restore and click on the Recover button. Soon a dialog box will open. Select the appropriate location to save the files and hit the Ok option.
If you havent closed the amended file, you could use repeated Ctrl+Z (Undo) to restore the file to previous states.
