hello my name is ruth carter and im a licensed attorney in arizona and this is your question of the day so somebody asked me they said i need to get permission to use images from movies for my t-shirt company im starting up how do i go about that do they have a website where i can buy these licenses i dont know how this works all right well kudos to you for realizing that you cant just take images from a movie and stick them on a shirt and sell them that is likely copyright infringement um what you need is to get permission from the copyright holder so i would probably start by looking at the movies website to see who owns the copyright i would expect there to be a copyright notice on the site about the film and if for some reason the movie doesnt have its own website i would look at imdb to see who the copyright holder is who the production company is and go through that process because you would have to determine who has the copyright rights or what company is managing the copy

The easiest way to obtain permission to reproduce a figure is using RightsLink. The majority of publishers use this service. If the publisher of the figure you wish to reproduce does not use RightsLink, you can request permissions directly from the publisher.
Obtaining permission You send a letter to the holder asking for permission and stating how you intend to use the image. The holder sends a letter back granting you permission. Your request should be as specific as possible in describing the intended use of the image.

In general, the permissions process involves a simple five-step procedure: Determine if permission is needed. Identify the owner. Identify the rights needed. Contact the owner and negotiate whether payment is required. Get your permission agreement in writing.
How do I write a permission letter? When writing a permission letter, you can follow the general format of a formal letter. You can start with the date, senders address, followed by the subject line. This is followed by the salutation, body of the letter and the complimentary closing.
If youre seeking permission to use an article, you may need to contact: The source magazine, book or website publisher. Giving credit to the owner of a copyrighted work wont by itself turn a non-transformative copy of their material into fair use. Phrases like all rights go to the author and I do not own dont automatically mean youre making fair use of that material. They also dont mean you have the copyright owners permission.
