Aldus Manutius, originally Aldo Manuzio, was a Venetian printer from around 1500 who invented the italic typeface. The term "italic" refers to text that slants to the right, originating from his work in Venice, which is in modern-day Italy. Manutius used a movable type printing press to create this typeface by cutting letters into metal pieces, developing the distinct slanted style we now recognize as italic. It's worth noting that this style is technically referred to as italic script, as it is based on earlier designs.
