For all four types of work orders, on-demand, preventive, internal, and third-party, there are two ways to do them: manually or with a modern CMMS solution.
A work order is specific to that worker and that job. It includes an agreed-upon hourly billing rate, cost allocation, length of assignment, and other elements used to track that specific combination of person and position.
For example, a customer of a building management company might use a work order for maintenance requests for a broken sink or AC. In manufacturing, a plant manager might find a faulty robot arm and send in a work order to ensure the plant keeps running smoothly.
A standard work order is a non-critical maintenance task that does not pose an immediate risk to facilities, systems, equipment or components. Some examples are: removing old equipment, setting up new equipment, painting, or changing light bulbs.
Answer: A job order refers to the job posting or requisition. A work order is specific to that worker and that job.
Work order types are used to categorize work orders. For example, you might have work orders that are related to preventive maintenance or corrective maintenance. A work order type defines an affiliation with a work order lifecycle model.
A work order is a formal document (digital or paper) that describes maintenance work approved for execution (i.e., an approved work request). Work requests can be submitted to maintenance by any of their many types of customers and staff, depending on the type of business, industry, and facility being managed.
A work order is a document managers authorize for workers to complete tasks. Also known as a job order or a service order, work orders are commonly used to manage maintenance operations across industries. They can also be used for follow-up actions from conducted inspections or audits.
