What is a secondment agreement? Well, its an agreement for a secondee. Well, thanks Simon, thats about as helpful as a hole in the head. Fair enough. Stick around and Ill tell you. Hi. Simon here from The Contract Company, Contracts for Australian Businesses. Thats what we do. All day, every day, and sometimes every night. Lucky us. I wasnt being flippant when I said, A secondment agreement is the agreement for a secondee. Well thats great. What is a secondee? Basically, its your employee. So if you run a business, and you have an employee, and you want to allow that employee to go and work at a client site for a period of time, then you would use a secondment agreement. Now the employee, even though theyre not physically based with you anymore, but theyre actually sitting with your client for that period of time, they are still your employee. There are two types of secondments: internal (which happen within a single company) and external (which happen between companies).
Example 2. A company wants to work with an important client but is unfamiliar with their industry. To gain first-hand experience, the company assigns a supervisor to a secondment with the client. During this temporary position, the secondee works for the client and learns about their industry.
At the end of secondment Prior to the end of the period of secondment, a meeting should be arranged between the secondee and their substantive line manager to discuss the implications of returning to their substantive post, and in order to update the individual on any changes within the department.
A secondment is a temporary move of an employee to another department or agency in the core public administration (Schedule I and IV of the Financial Administration Act), and other organizations for which the Treasury Board is the Employer.
As a lateral movement, a secondment allows an employee to perform the functions of a position that already exists or to take on a special project in another organization. The employee maintains his or her substantive position in the home organization, and is paid by the home organization.
Secondment is a more formal type of job rotation. This is not to be confused with temporary work. Secondment, sometimes referred to as employer of record (EoR) or professional employer organization (PEO), can also be used to help organizations hire during a headcount freeze.
A secondment is a temporary move between one job and another, other than a temporary promotion as defined below, which usually involves a transfer from one line manager to another. Secondments can be within a department, to another department or even between different organisations.
A secondment (sometimes referred to as a job rotation) is a chance for an employee to temporarily work on a different team within their organization, or in some cases, for a different organization entirely. Think of secondments as the on-the-job equivalent of exchange student programs.
