The CSV filetype is a plain text file that holds lists of data and is useful for moving information between different software. Sometimes when opening a CSV file in Microsoft Excel the data appears jumbled such as in this example. This data is from an Atlas Copco MTF6000 controller and contains torque verification data. By examining the text I can see that the data is separated using semicolons, not commas. This would explain why Excel isnt properly displaying the data. To fix this issue we must open the Text Import Wizard. In older versions of Excel this is done by opening the CSV file using the File Import action, but in this newer version we must manually open the file by selecting File, then opening it from the disk or recent files list. Now that the Text Import Wizard is open we must tell Excel to use the Delimited data type which separates the text into fields using certain characters. Select Delimited and click next. You can access it from the Edit Find Replace menu or by pressing Ctrl-F on the keyboard. You will then see the following dialog: Enter the phrase or word you are looking for and the corresponding one to replace it with if any. Clicking Find will search for the first occurance of your criteria.
Notepad++ is free to download and is easily installed. Once installed on a computer, open the program and select FileOpen to open a big CSV file.
Click the Data tab, and select From Text. Find your CSV file stored on your computer, and click Open. In the Text Import Wizard window, be sure Delimited is selected as your file type. In the File origin drop down, select 65001 : Unicode (UTF-8) Check the My Data has headers box. Click the Next button.

To open a CSV file in text editor or Notepad, Go to the CSV file you want to open. Right-click on it. Go to Open With. Select Notepad or Notepad++
To edit your csv files, we strongly advise you to use a simple text editor such as Notepad++ or Sublime Text. Using Excel to edit your files is more complex: Excel renders certain values such as ICCID or IMEI in numbers and truncates them, leading to information being not easily usable.
Find the CSV file in Windows Explorer. Use the context (right click) menu and select Edit with Notepad++. Then you can edit and save the file.
