Wipe the streaked area firmly. Once the binder in the stain has dried and locked the pigment in place, however, youll need to remove the mark with sandpaper of the highest grit used for the rest of the project. Then restain until you match the color of the surrounding wood.
Minwax PolyShades is an easy way to change the color of your currently stained or polyurethane finished wood. Theres no stripping or heavy sanding necessary to remove the old finish!
You need to invest in a spray gun for applying the stain. If you dont have the extra money to get good equipment, at least go get a cheap one that you can spray the stain on with, then wipe it off. You can get a cheap gravity fed gun at Lowes for $50, which will work a lot better than a foam brush.
Take a piece and seal it with just enough sealer to get it wet. While it is still wet, using a cup gun full of thinner and a tablespoon of green dye, fog it - the red will go brown, but be careful, because it can go green if you lay too much on. If you do go too green, you can fix it by doing the same thing with red.
Streaks are most likely to form when the stain pools or drips and then dries too quickly to be suitably wiped up. In oil-based stains, which can be thinned and cleaned with mineral distillates, this problem was much less common.
To fix a streaky job, first strip as much of that color off as you can. Scrub the surface of an oil-based with a Scotch-Brite pad and mineral spirits until the streaks are all gone. If you have a water-based stain, scrub the area using a lacquer thinner.

Allow the stain to penetrate ing to the labels directions, then remove the excess stain with a rag, again wiping in the direction of the grain. If you want a darker color, wait for the stain to dry and apply a second coat. 3.
