There are no shortcuts as such but you can use a quick method of making a block quote. Simply select the text, and use Ctrl + ] or Cmd + ] to change the indent. Then place the cursor in the beginning of the text and add quotation mark using the keyboard. Repeat the same for the end of the text.
Press Ctrl+H to open the Find And Replace window. Using Shift+2, type the quotation mark into both the Find What and Replace With boxes. Finally, click Replace All. You will see that this changes your curly quotes to straight quotes.
Start a block quotation on a new line and indent the whole block 0.5 in. from the left margin. Double-space the entire block quotation. Do not add extra space before or after it.
Block quotations start on their own line. The entire block quotation is indented 0.5 inches, the same as the indentation for a new paragraph, and is double spaced.
Mac Users. In Words Preferences, click AutoCorrect and then open the AutoFormat As You Type tab to find the straight/curly quotes option. If the checkbox is left blank, quotes will be straight. At the bottom of the middle set on the AutoFormat As You Type, look for the Straight quotes with smart quotes option.
Hanging indents in Microsoft Word Highlight the citation(s) you want to indent. If you have multiple citation entries, make sure there is a single line of space between each one. Right click and select Paragraph. Under Indentation - Special select Hanging. Click OK.
To format a block quote in Microsoft Word, follow these steps: Hit Enter at the beginning and end of the quote. Highlight the quote and select the Layout menu. On the Indent tab, change the left indent to 0.5.
What to Know Highlight the text youd like to use as a block quote. Select Increase Indent from the menu bar or use the Ctrl + ] keyboard shortcut. Open Format from the menu bar, then Line Paragraph Spacing. Change as desired.
