in this 3d printing 101 Ill show you how I printed this huge piece on my crucial mark 3 in a fraction of the time it would normally take with no changes to the hardware lets get started hows it going guys ink is here from make his muse and welcome back to another 3d printing 101 video few weeks ago I unveiled my fallout 4 inspired 3d printer build and the main aspect of that machine was it was mostly 3d printed the whole base is one single solid 3d printed part theres no joins or anything its just one piece off the machine but the thing is with FFF slash FDM 3d printers you have a single nozzle extruding molten material so the bigger parts get they take exponentially longer time for example a cube by scaling it by 200% youre not just doubling the print time and material of that cube youre actually increasing it by roughly eight times so when youre printing something this big time and material use especially when youre prototyping is pretty important but before I jump into pre

0.5mm nozzle: Lowest layer height: 0.2mm. Highest layer height: 0.4mm.
For a 0.6 mm nozzle we recommend the 0.3 mm QUALITY print setting. For a 0.8 mm nozzle we recommend the 0.4 mm QUALITY print setting.
5 Simple Steps to a Perfect First Layer Level the Bed. An uneven print bed is often to blame for a print that doesnt stick. Slow Down First Layer Speed. Getting a print to stick to the bed is difficult if the toolhead is moving too quickly. Check the Temperature. Treat the Build Surface. Add a Raft, Skirt, or Brim.
For PETG I like a first layer height of 0.28mm which seems to help with the build-up issue PETG is known for. There are a lot of users that swear you need to squish your first layer with a layer height of less than 0.20mm. This is normally to cover up another issue like incorrect speed or hotend temperature.
For Standard Print Co. PETG we recommend printing at 220C and increasing the print temperature only if extrusion problems become evident. A bed temp of between 70C - 80C is recommended. Print the first two layers with the bed at 80C if possible.
An Initial Layer Print Speed of 20 mm/s is a great speed to get excellent first layer prints. An Initial Layer Travel Speed of 20mm/s will minimise vibrations and help ensure the filament is extruding out reliably. It is an advantage for 3D printing single layers to use the same print speed for both these settings.
Summary. Initial Layer Speed: This should be between 20-30 mm/s. Initial Layer Travel Speed: 80-100 mm/s for the initial layer strikes the perfect balance between speed and quality.
In general, you want the speed of your first layer to be reduced, typically 30-50% speed, to allow extra time for the filament to gain contact with the bed and stick. The First Layer Height determines the thickness of the first layer that is printed on the bed.
PETG usually prints best in the temperature range of 220260 C. 3D printer company Prusa suggests a printing temperature of 230 C for the first layer and a slightly higher temperature of 240 C for the rest of the build.
Layer height should not exceed 80 % of the nozzle diameter. However, with a 0.6mm nozzle, its possible to achieve up to a 0.48 mm layer height.
