How to Make Excel Add Months to Date =EDATE(start date, number of months) Step 1: Ensure the starting date is properly formatted go to Format Cells (press Ctrl + 1) and make sure the number is set to Date. Step 2: Use the =EDATE(C3,C5) formula to add the number of specified months to the start date.
To change the date or time format, right-click in a cell, and select Format Cells. Then, on the Format Cells dialog box, in the Number tab, under Category, choose Date or Time and in the Type list, select a type, and select OK.
Special formatting tricks to avoid having Excel change numbers into dates Add a space before the number. Or, add an apostrophe () BEFORE you enter the number, e.g. 1/2. Or, add a zero and space before number formats such as 1/2 to avoid the change to date format.
