Using DITA XML, you can create structured content once and then reuse it in multiple formats and contexts. This allows you to break down your content into smaller modules that can be reused in different ways. Modular content is easier to understand, update, and translate than unstructured content.
Over the years, many firmsprimarily in the software and high tech sectorshave acknowledged that they are using DITA. Software and information technology firms together still comprise the largest single base of core DITA users, making up almost 40 percent of all organizations using DITA (see Figure 1).
Difference between DITA and DocBook DITA is designed to create topic-based documentation, while DocBook is designed to create structured documents. Topic-based documentation means each content can stand alone and be reused in different documents.
Where DITA is a set of organizing principles, XML is the code doing the organizing. Each bit of content receives a tag, such as heading, ordered list, paragraph, etc. These are assigned manually by the writer ing to the rules of DITA, which stipulate which tags can go where.
The Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) specification defines a set of document types for authoring and organizing topic-oriented information, as well as a set of mechanisms for combining, extending, and constraining document types.
DITA is built on XML-based mark-up language. It allows for topic-based authoring. It follows structured authoring concepts. It separates content from formatting via the DITA style guide.
Creating a DITA Topic in Oxygen XML Editor Select File New or click the New button on the toolbar. Step Result: The New Document Wizard is displayed: Go to Framework templates DITA topic and select the type of topic that you want to create. Select a file path where it will be saved. Click Create.
