By default, Photoshop uses 70% of available RAM, but this can be adjusted! From Photoshop preferences, click on Performance and then adjust the slider upward to allow Photoshop to use more RAM.
In your Photoshop menu, click Preferences. Select Performance. Within Memory Usage will be a slider for how much RAM Photoshop. Adjust the slider to allow more RAM to go to Photoshop.
How to lower RAM usage on Windows and Mac: Start here Restart your device. A great first troubleshooting step for reducing RAM usage is simply restarting your computer. Try other browsers. Clear RAM cache. Update software to the latest versions. Delete unused extensions. Use optimization software.
Photoshops memory usage is high as its designed to manipulate and render uncompressed images. A final jpg coming out at less than 1MB may take up 50MB of memory in Photoshop! If you find that Photoshop is using too much memory, then you can adjust this in the Performance section of your preferences.
You can also help to speed up Photoshop by: Making sure that your OS and Photoshop are up to date. Closing any other programs to free up RAM capacity. Uninstalling any Photoshop tools and fonts you dont regularly use. Clearing your Photoshop cache. Working with fewer images at one time.
Windows PC: Click on the Edit menu at the top of the screen, choose Preferences, and then select General. Mac: Go up to the Photoshop CC menu, click on Preferences, then choose General.
From Photoshop preferences, click on Performance and then adjust the slider upward to allow Photoshop to use more RAM. docHub advises against allocating more than 85% of your computers memory to Photoshop since that can affect the performance of other essential system applications.
Step 1: Open Photoshop and click Edit Preferences Performance. Step 2: Move the slider under Let Photoshop use to allow Photoshop to use more RAM bandwidth during its processes. Step 3: Save the changes and restart the program to try it again.
