Hi this is Gary with MacMost.com. Lets look at Basic Layout using Pages. So Im using Pages version 5. Were going to look at doing some basic layout. Now in Pages you always start off with a word processing document. That means there is a large text area in the middle of the screen. We can see that by going to View/Show layout which is something you want to have turned on anyway if you are going to do layout. You can see this large text box here. Now if you are doing page layout, like say you want to make a flyer or a newsletter or something, then you are not going to want this large box here meant for word processing. So the way to get to it is in your right sidebar here you are probably looking at format or perhaps you even have it turned off. Either way you want to go to Setup. In Setup you want to go to Document. Then you want want to turn off Document Body. It is going to warn you and then once you say okay you want to remove it then that is gone. Insert a check mark symbol In your file, place the cursor where you want to insert the symbol. Open the Symbol dialog box: In the Font box, select Wingdings. In the Character code box at the bottom, enter: 252. Select the check mark you want. Once the check mark has been inserted, you may change its size or color.
Enter special characters and symbols Click in the text where you want to place the character, then choose Edit Emoji Symbols (or press Control-Command-Space bar). The Character Viewer appears where you clicked. To locate a character, do any of the following: Click a character to insert it in the text.
Choose Pages Settings (from the Pages menu at the top of your screen). Click Auto-Correction at the top of the settings window. In the Formatting section, select the Use smart quotes and dashes checkbox. Click the pop-up menus for double and single quotes, and choose a style for each.

Disable Spelling and Grammar Corrections Select the File tab and then choose Options and Proofing. Remove the checks next to Check Spelling As You Type and Check Grammar with Spelling. Select OK at the bottom to save changes and go back to your document.
Select the text where you want to remove highlights and comments. To remove them for all body text in the document, press Command-A on your keyboard. Choose Edit Remove Highlights and Comments (from the Edit menu at the top of your screen).
Show or hide formatting marks Do one of the following: Show invisibles: Select View Show Invisibles (from the View menu at the top of your screen). Note: The View button in the toolbar doesnt have this command. Hide invisibles: Select View Hide Invisibles.
Click the arrow icon next to the Bullets option and select Define New Bullet. Select Symbol from the options on your screen. You should see various symbols that you can use in place of regular bullets. Scroll down this list, find a checkbox icon, click it, and hit OK at the bottom.
Word for Mac OS X From the Word menu, select Preferences. Select View. In the section titled Nonprinting characters, check or uncheck the appropriate boxes to view the marks of your choice. Check All to see all formatting marks. To save your changes, click OK.
