The TWICs with missing fingerprint information can be identified by the 8-digit Credential Identification Number (CIN) that is printed on the back of the TWIC.
A TWIC is a Transportation Worker Identity Card. This card is issued by the United States Transportation Security Administration and the United States Coast Guard. Individuals must have a TWIC to gain access to secure maritime facilities. These often include ships, ferries, dockside warehouses and port customs offices.
So, you might ask, Can I use my TWIC card to cross the border? Your TWIC is valid for border crossings between the mainland U.S. and its territories. But does a TWIC card work as a passport? No. A TWIC is not eligible for travel to foreign countries as it is not internationally recognizable.
Typically, you must visit the TSAs activation website or call a toll-free number to complete this final step. After activation, your renewed TWIC card is ready for use.
The main difference between a TSA certification and a TWIC card is that they apply to different parts of the transportation industry. Put generally, a TWIC card grants drivers access to secure areas of maritime ports, while a TSA certification grants access to secure areas of airports.
Its important to note that the TWIC card is specific to the transportation industry and is different from other security clearances, such as those issued by the Department of Defense (DOD) or other government agencies. Its also not the same as a TSA certification.
The new card meets TSA security standards for valid identification, and a valid unexpired TWIC can be used to board planes. TSA officers are trained to recognize the TWIC as an acceptable form of identification.
TWIC cardholders must use an active TWIC Credential Identification Number (CIN) that has not been canceled. The CIN is printed on the back lower left-hand corner of the TWIC card.
