Cons of Powerlifting Lifting heavy weights can increase the risk of injury if proper technique and safety measures are not followed.
So while it has been proven that on average powerlifters suffer far fewer injuries than other sports, the injuries that do happen at the extreme level can be just as bad as any sports. At the same time, these are more often from improper technique or loading.
Within this context, powerlifters are seen to have the shortest life expectancy mainly because of their high body weight(30). All sports, depending on muscular activity, increase the energy expenditure rate. Therefore, nutrient requirement raises to supply the energy demand of the body.
In general, strength sports like powerlifting have many health benefits, as this sport: Increases bone density and reduces the risk of osteoporosis later on in life. Increases metabolism and can help you manage your weight.
Powerlifting not only causes short term problems but also affects the bodys long term health. Repetition of these exercises over years can lead to pain in the muscles and discs in the back, especially without the use of proper form and techniques. These problems may also occur if one does not wear appropriate gear.
Whether you decide to do powerlifting or bodybuilding will depend on your goals. If you want to become as strong as possible but dont care too much about your physique, powerlifting is the better choice. If you want to look lean and muscular but dont care about maxing out on your lifts all the time, try bodybuilding.
Strength training provides numerous health benefits, such as a lower risk of heart disease and diabetes, stronger bones, better brain health and mood, and improved self-esteem. Fortunately, strength training isnt just lifting weights at the gym.
