Null (empty) values are displayed last for ascending sequences and first for descending sequences. Example 3-7 shows how to use SELECT with the ORDER BY clause to retrieve and display rows from the employees table ordered (sorted) by specified columns.
Specifies that the values in the specified column should be sorted in ascending or descending order. ASC sorts from the lowest value to highest value. DESC sorts from highest value to lowest value. ASC is the default sort order.
If different items have different sort key values then this defines a unique order of the items. A standard order is often called ascending (corresponding to the fact that the standard order of numbers is ascending, i.e. A to Z, 0 to 9), the reverse order descending (Z to A, 9 to 0).
Or, select Data Sort. Select an option: Sort A to Z - sorts the selected column in an ascending order. Sort Z to A - sorts the selected column in a descending order.
The ORDER BY keyword is used to sort the result-set in ascending or descending order.
Select Home Sort Filter. Or, select Data Sort. Select an option: Sort A to Z - sorts the selected column in an ascending order.
Ascending order is a method of arranging numbers from smallest value to largest value. The order goes from left to right. Ascending order is also sometimes named as increasing order. For example, a set of natural numbers are in ascending order, such as 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 and so on.
In general terms, Ascending means smallest to largest, 0 to 9, and/or A to Z and Descending means largest to smallest, 9 to 0, and/or Z to A.
