hi iamp;#39;m chris smith and this is a short walk through on how to base 64 encode and decode some text values to do this weamp;#39;re going to look at using the retool utilities which is at retool.com utilities and these are free easy to use utilities for developers for all sorts of things converting data importing exporting data between different systems so you go to that site click on the base64 decoder and from here if you already have some base64 value you can input it and itamp;#39;ll decode the text to start iamp;#39;ll just show you how we can just type in some text here my test text and see if you click out of that field itamp;#39;ll automatically encode it here in the bottom so then you can take that base64 value and use it however you want it and if we go the other way we can just paste that in and see that it has decoded it so super helpful little tool hopefully this video is helpful for you let me know if you have any questions in the comments below and check

Base64 strings tend to end in one or two equal signs, but not always! These strings are not exact representations of the binary data in ASCII, because padding is applied to ensure the string length is a multiple of 4 characters. Each equal sign represents two bits of zero-padding.
Base64 is used because some systems are restricted to ASCII characters but are actually used for all kinds of data. Base64 can camouflage this data as ASCII and thus help this data pass validation. Because some older systems think that data consists of 7-bit chunks (bytes), whereas modern ones use 8-bit bytes.
What is Radix 64 Encoding? Radix 64 encoding allows binary data stored in octets (i.e. bytes) to be expressed as printable characters. Radix-64 characters require the binary input to be split into blocks of 6. These numbers (which all range from 0 - 63) are then mapped onto a character set of printable characters.
Base64 is a encoding technique that represents binary data in a human-readable (text) format which generally contains 64 different characters. The resulting base64 data(encoded data) can be easily transmitted over various channels which only supports-text based data transmission such as email, HTTP OR XML.
To decode with base64 you need to use the --decode flag. With encoded string, you can pipe an echo command into base64 as you did to encode it. Using the example encoding shown above, lets decode it back into its original form. Provided your encoding was not corrupted the output should be your original string.
In other words, any base-64 string can be decoded, as long as the string was encoded using a standard set of characters (which the decoder can also understand).
Base64 is also widely used for sending e-mail attachments, because SMTP in its original form was designed to transport 7-bit ASCII characters only. Encoding an attachment as Base64 before sending, and then decoding when received, assures older SMTP servers will not interfere with the attachment.
How to decode Base64 online using this decoder tool Paste your string in the Base64 field. Select the algorithm standard (if you do not know, leave it as it is, as the decoder will automatically detect it). Enable the strict decoding mode if you want to make sure that your Base64 string contains only valid characters.
