hey everyone this is joe with southeastern frontiers and today we are hiking the trough springs trail on montesano itamp;#39;s in the south part of montesano and uh today i am hiking with jacob for this video jacob and i hiked the historic trough springs trail on the very southern end of montesano near huntsville alabama this trail starts out in the montesano state park crosses through the property belonging to the bird on the mountain museum and then finishes up in the land trust in north alabamaamp;#39;s montesano nature preserve the trail is notable for its history besides trough springs once being an important watering hole for people crossing from big cove to huntsville and back it was also the site of the surrender of bushwacker johnston and his band of about 150 confederate soldiers to the union army in may of 1865 marking the end of the civil war in north alabama trough springs is fairly easy and pretty short about three miles round trip with mostly forest views and t
