Did you miss a credit or deduction, or need to correct something else on your tax return for this year or past years? If so, you can file an amended tax return. Here are five things you need to know about amending a tax return: First, be sure to identify the year of the return youre amending. Remember, normally you can only go back three years. Second, choose how you want to file your amended return. Returns for tax year 2019 or later can be amended electronically. If youre amending a return prior to 2019, youll need to mail the paper Form 1040-X to the IRS. Third, if youre amending more than one return, you must prepare a separate 1040X for each year. If you mail these Forms 1040-X to the IRS, use separate envelopes, and be sure to send them to the correct IRS address depending on where you live. You can find this information in the forms instructions. Fourth, if youre filing for an additional refund, wait until you get your original refund before filing a 1040-X. F

The easy rule is that you must pay nonresident income taxes for the state in which you work and resident income taxes for the state in which you live, while filing income tax returns for both states.
Ohio has a reciprocity agreement with the five states that border Ohio. These five states are Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The reciprocity agreements provide that Ohio will not impose state income tax on the salaries, wages, tips and commissions of residents of these five states.
Nonresident A nonresident with income earned in Ohio will be subject to Ohio tax. A nonresident taxpayer is allowed a nonresident credit for all income not earned or received in Ohio.
Employers are not required to withhold Ohio income tax for an employee who lives and works in another state, even if the work is performed for an Ohio company. The employer should consult the laws and rules of the employees resident state related to withholding income tax for that state.
Ohioans pay nearly a dime in taxes out of every $1 earned. Ohios rate of 9.8 percent for state and local taxes on average is close to the rates in the neighboring states - Michigan (9.4 percent), Indiana (9.5 percent), Kentucky (9.5 percent), West Virginia (9.8 percent) and Pennsylvania (10.2 percent).
Michigan has a flat 4.25 percent individual income tax rate. There are also jurisdictions that collect local income taxes. Michigan has a 6.0 percent corporate income tax rate. Michigan also has a 6.00 percent state sales tax rate.
You can be a resident of two states at the same time, usually by maintaining a domicile in one state and spending 183 days or more in another. It is not advisable, as you will be liable to file income taxes in both states, rather than in only one.
