Example 1: By Using the Formula Deliberate the Excel worksheet. In the Excel sheet, select the row C to remove all dashes from SSN, place the pointer in the cell D2 and enter the formula that is =SUBSTITUTE(C2,-,) then press enter tab that will display the social security number without dashes.
Display Social Security numbers in full Or, select Number Format More Number Formats. In the Category box, select Special. In the Type list, choose Social Security Number.
If do not like the dashes, dont choose the Soc Sec format. To allow for possible leading zeros (not possible with SSNs?), use the Custom format 0000000000 (10 zeros). On the other hand, if you typed (or read from a text file) 123-45-7890 with the dashes, Excel recognizes that as text, not a numeric value.
Display Social Security numbers in full Select the cell or range of cells that you want to format. On the Home tab, next to Number in the Number Format box. , click the arrow, and then click More Number Formats. In the Format Cells dialog box, under Category, click Special. In the Type list, click Social Security Number.
In the Excel sheet, select the row C to remove all dashes from SSN, place the pointer in the cell D2 and enter the formula that is =SUBSTITUTE(C2,-,) then press enter tab that will display the social security number without dashes. It will remove the dashes in the cell as shown below.
Using Formulas to Format SSNs Use the formula =TEXT(A1,000-00-0000) where A1 represents the cell with the SSN. This function converts the SSN into a text format with dashes. Its essential to review the results for accuracy, ensuring all SSNs are correctly formatted.
Remove Numbers from a Cell in Excel with Find Replace with Wildcards Choose a data range from B5:B11. Open the Find Replace command with CTRL + H command. In the Find what box put the (*) and leave the Replace with box as it is. Now, press Replace All button.
The nine-digit SSN is composed of three parts: The first set of three digits is called the Area Number. The second set of two digits is called the Group Number. The final set of four digits is the Serial Number.
