To half shade a cell in Excel, utilize the shape tool. Direct half shading of cells is not an inherent feature in Excel, but the shape tool provides an effective workaround. Draw a shape over the cell and format it to create the desired half shading effect.
There is a very simple way to do it; just follow these steps: Select the cell that you want to have the drop shadow. Make sure the Drawing toolbar is displayed. (If you dont see it, click View | Toolbars | Drawing.) On the Drawing toolbar, click the Shadow Style tool. Select the shadow desired.
To remove any background colors, patterns, or fill effects from cells, just select the cells. Then click Home arrow next to Fill Color, and then pick No Fill.
Add a drop shadow to a shape On the Shape Format tab, select Shape Effects Shadow, and then pick the shadow you want. When you rest your pointer on one of the shadow effects, it appears as a preview on the shape. Tip: To customize the shadow, click Shadow Options at the bottom of the shadow choices.
Click the worksheet that is displayed with a sheet background. Make sure that only one worksheet is selected. On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click Delete Background.
