Shortening a quote If you want to omit some words, phrases, or sentences from the quote to save space, use an ellipsis (. . .) with a space before and after it to indicate that some material has been left out. If the part you removed includes a sentence break, add a period before the ellipsis to indicate this.
By using the -r option, you can output the result with no quotes. xargs uses echo as the default command if no command is provided and strips quotes from the input, see e.g. here. Note, however, that this will work only if the string does not contain additional quotes.
To remove double quotes just from the beginning and end of the String, we can use a more specific regular expression: String result = input. replaceAll(^\|\$, ); After executing this example, occurrences of double quotes at the beginning or end of the String will be replaced by empty strings.
In case of removing the outermost quotes (leading trailing quotes) from a string, you need to use two types of syntaxes. To remove the leading selection you can use the syntax ${variable#pattern} and to remove the trailing selection you can use the syntax ${variable%pattern}.
The str. strip() method is intended to perform such an operation. Lets take examplestr from the previous section, and remove the quotation mark using the strip() method. The strip() method removes the leading and trailing quotation marks from the examplestr.
Use of Ellipses If only part of a quote is needed, it is possible to omit information and replace it with ellipses. Ellipses (. . .) are used when information is omitted from the middle of a quote.
Select string (with quotes) and press a keyboard shortcut (like or CTRL+) to remove the surrounding quotes.
