(upbeat music) How to take ear impressions for custom hearing instruments The success of a custom product fitting relies on the quality of the ear impression An inadequate impression can result in insufficient acoustic seal and a poor fit This can lead to a less discreet device, less gain, less comfort and possible feedback Follow these steps to make good ear impressions These steps apply to custom products and earmolds Step 1: Examine the outer ear and ear canal to verify the ear is clear, healthy and free of wax and abnormalities Step 2: Select and always use the correct size otoblock An otoblock which is too large will create pressure in the ear canal If the otoblock is too small, impression material could push past it Step 3: Gently pull the ear up and out to straighten the ear canal then brace while you insert the otoblock Place the otoblock past the second bend of the ear canal for an adequate impression With an otoscope, check that the otoblock is about halfway down the ear cana
